What are Good Selections for Your Charcuterie Board? Try "The Rule of 3's"!

What Are Good Cheese Selections For Your Charcuterie Board? Try applying “the rule of 3’s”

When it comes to cheese there are so many delicious choices! Frequently standing in front of an overwhelming cheese case at your local grocery just trying to make the decision of what cheeses to use for your board, is the most difficult part. With so many wonderful choices, how on earth does one choose? Well, to begin, it’s important to keep in mind that variety key. As a rule of thumb you will want to present at least three different texture choices for your guests: one soft cheese (example-brie or chevre), one harder cheese (example-aged cheddar or manchego), and one in between (example-gouda or petit basque). This is what we call the “rule of 3’s”. Variety and intensity are wonderful for guests, it does a lot to make your presentation be it large or small, so much more interesting. A variety of textures and intensities create an interesting experience for your quests and can be deliciously surprising! If you haven’t created many boards in recent years some tried and true favorites here at San Diego Chocolate Fountains are Sartori Merlot in the harder cheese catagory, Costo Goat (wonderful with sweet jellies such as fig) for a soft cheese choice, and Trader Joe’s gouda for a classic in between cheese. These selections are very high quality and super tasty. If you’re looking to add a bit of drama to your board, for something exceptionally beautiful, a girolle curled petit basque is a visually stunning choice.

A girolle is a special used to create these very unique curls. Recently the petit basque curls have become so popular that they are available at major outlets like Costco. This is great if you want to impress and don’t have a lot of time to spend creating these lovely curls on a girolle tool. When it comes to making great cheese choices: variety, quality, and interest are where it at! And the great thing is it’s easy to make charcuterie or cheese board choices and impress your guests when you apply the rule of 3’s!
